Poundwise Privacy Policy
The short version
- Poundwise keeps your weight entries and settings on your phone. We don’t have an account system or a server that receives them.
- We don’t collect, sell, or share your personal information. There are no ads and no analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- You decide if and where any backup, export, or shared progress picture goes.
- The only outside service involved is the app store’s purchase system, used to unlock the app.
1. What Poundwise stores on your device
To work, the app saves the following in its private storage on your phone:
- Your weight entries (the date and the weight you logged).
- Your settings: units, starting weight, goal weight, theme, reminder preferences, chart and week preferences.
- Your progress in the app, such as which milestones you have already celebrated.
- The date you started using the app (to track the free trial) and whether you have unlocked it.
This information stays on your device. We cannot see it. Weight and goal information can be sensitive, so we have designed the app to keep it with you.
2. What we collect
We do not collect personal information through the app. Poundwise has no sign-up or login, does not send your entries or settings to us or to any third party, and does not include advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting tools.
3. Purchases
After the free trial, Poundwise is unlocked with a one-time in-app purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never see your payment details.
To confirm and restore your purchase we use RevenueCat, a service that checks your purchase receipt with the app store. It receives purchase and transaction information, a random anonymous identifier created for the app, and basic device and app details (such as operating system and country). It does not receive your weight entries or settings, and we use it only to verify and restore your purchase.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Poundwise can show reminders to log your weight, a weekly summary of your progress, a monthly backup reminder, and a notice before your trial ends. These are created and scheduled on your phone. They are not sent from a server, and the app does not collect a push-notification token. You can change this at any time in the app’s settings or in your phone’s notification settings.
5. Backups, exports, and sharing
- Phone backups. Your phone’s operating system may include the app’s data in its own backup (for example Google’s automatic backup on Android, or an iCloud or computer backup on iPhone). Those backups belong to your Google or Apple account and are governed by their policies and your device settings. They are not available to us.
- Backup and export files. When you choose Back Up or Export My Data, the app creates a file and you choose where it goes, such as a folder on your phone or a cloud service you use. We do not receive these files.
- Progress pictures. When you choose to share your progress, the app creates a progress card on your phone: an image of a cartoon stick figure with a short message and a simple chart of your trend. It is not a photo of you, and the app never uses your camera or photo library. The card is handed to your phone’s share menu, and you choose whether to share it and with whom. By default the card does not show your actual weights.
6. Home-screen widgets
If you add a Poundwise widget, it displays your latest weight and progress on your home screen using data stored on your phone. Anyone who can see your home screen can see what the widget shows, so add it only if you are comfortable with that.
7. Permissions
Poundwise asks only for permission to send notifications. It does not ask for access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or health data. When you save a backup to a folder, you pick that folder using your phone’s own file picker.
8. Your choices and your data
- Delete individual entries any time from the History screen.
- Uninstalling the app removes the data stored on your phone.
- To remove an operating-system backup, manage it in your Google or Apple account settings.
- Files you exported or shared are yours to keep or delete.
Because we do not collect or hold personal information about you, there is nothing for us to look up, correct, or delete on our side. This applies to everyone, including people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California. We do not sell or share personal information.
9. Children
Poundwise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Third-party services
The app store you download Poundwise from, and the purchase service described above, have their own privacy practices:
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the effective date above. If a change is significant, such as the app starting to collect data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
